I love Autumn Crafts like these cute Hedgehog Crafts. They are a great way to help children engage with all the wonderful changes going on around them in Nature.
This cute hedgehog family fall craft is a great way to get children thinking and talking about the changes in the weather and plants and how some animals, like hedgehogs, are preparing for winter hibernation.
An added bonus is that it’s also a great craft to add to your fine motor skills activities list too.
Supplies for your cute hedgehog Autumn crafts are so easy!
I simply took the children for a walk and encouraged them to look around to see what had fallen from the trees. They found a treasure trove of sticks, leaves, acorns, conkers (buckeyes) and fir cones.
Back home I gave them some simple modelling clay would work just as well too, and a pair of scissors.
Hedgehog Crafts To Build Fine Motor Skills Is Fun!
Modelling clay is perfect for giving those small hand muscles a good work out as the children squash, squeeze, pull, roll and twist the shape of their hedgehog’s body.
Once the body is shaped the children can practise different fine motor skills while making the hedgehog’s quills.
Perhaps they’d like to cut them with scissors?
Or use a twig to make a repeating pattern.
Or use some of their nature walk finds like sticks, seeds or leaves as quills?
Why not make a whole family of hedgehogs? It’s a cute Autumn craft for kids and a great way for you to encourage the children to use a different method for each one. What a fun way to develop a range of fine motor skills!
