I just love how this CARDBOARD TUBE CANDLE CRAFT FOR KIDS turned out. I knew it was going to be pretty but it actually turned out even prettier than I expected.
Last week I was putting together a round up of Hanukkah crafts and one of them was a gorgeous yarn wrapped menorah craft. I loved the idea so much I decided to adapt it and make a 3D version using cardboard tube candles. I’m so pleased I did, this yarn wrapped candle craft turned out so colourful and cute!
We ended up making lots of different paper roll candles in different sizes. We used rainbow yarn to wrap around our candles and I love all the colours.
We’ve sat our candles together and scattered some Christmas ornaments around them and it’s made the most wonderful Christmas candle centre piece. I also think this would be a wonderful Hanukkah candle or Diwali candle too don’t you?
After I’d finished photographing our candles my son had the idea of hanging some on the Christmas tree as candle ornaments. So we added a loop of yarn at the top and I have to say the idea worked really well and they look rather fabulous! I’d recommend you give it a go too.
Colourful Paper Roll Candle Craft For Kids
We used a mix of TP Rolls, poster tubes and kitchen roll middles to make our candles. Any cardboard tube will do and if they’re longer than you’d like then just cut them to size.
Candle Craft Supplies:

How To Make Cardboard Tube Yarn Wrapped Candles
1 – Wrap your cardboard tube in a sheet of plain white paper.
2 – Cut down the excess to make strips and then tuck them into the ends of the cardboard tube.
3 – Cut a long length of rainbow yarn and sticky tape one end inside the tube. Wrap the yarn tightly around the tube.
4 – Keep wrapping until you’ve covered the tube with colour but leave about 1cm or 1/5 inch gap at one end. Tape the other end of the yarn inside the tube too.
5 – On the end of the tube where you left a blank gap, cut a short snip into either side of the tube. (Make sure you don’t cut through the yarn. For younger children you might want to make your cuts before wrapping your yarn.)
6 – To make the candle flame cut out a large yellow flame / tear drop shape. It needs to be wider than the tube. Ours was about 10 cm tall and 6 cm wide.
7 – Then cut two smaller flame shapes from orange paper and glue one into the middle of each side of the yellow flame.
8 – Finish your candle flames bu cutting two even smaller gold flame shapes and glueing one on either side.
9 – Push your paper flame into the slots on either side of the candle and it will hold them upright.
I hope you enjoy making this Cardboard Tube Candle Craft For Kids as much as we did. I think it will be a regular Christmas candle craft for us from now on.
