Join us to make some adorable Christmas Lid Ornaments. When it comes to Christmas my kids are the kings of bling! Seriously, if they had their way our tree, in fact our whole house, would be a forest of tinsel and glitter!
Christmas decorating gets me in a bit of a tizz every year. Half of me wants to let the kids go wild with all things tacky and tinsel and the other half of me yearns for the idillic and subtle homemade, rustic perfection I see in glossy magazines!
What to do, what to do? Well, this Christmas Lid Ornament craft is a perfect solution to having a foot in both decorating style camps.
These homemade decorations let the kids bling and festoon with as much glitter, tinsel and sequins as they like, yet when they’re on the tree they’re small and subtle enough for me not to end up in a sensory overload meltdown! Success!
Everyone’s happy! And of course they’re a recycled Christmas craft for kids too which makes them super cheap and must score us some brownie points with Santa’s elves right?

How To Make Christmas Lid Ornaments
We’re all really busy at this time of year so you’ll be glad to know that this Christmas Lid Ornaments activity is really easy and quick to set up. If you lay out some old newspaper or a refuse sack then it’s quick and easy to tidy away when the kids are done too!
I like to lay out all the supplies for this Christmas craft on the table and then call the kids to come and see. All the sparkles look so appealing they never fail to want to dive in! I quickly show them the method and then let them explore and experiment on their own.
Basically all they’re doing is squeezing a layer of Elmer’s Glue into the inside of the lid and then filling it with glitter, sequins or tinsel in any way and any combination they like.
It’s a great Christmas craft for using up all those left over bits and pieces of bling you might have floating about in your craft supplies cupboard! My youngest even raided the kitchen drawer for some tin foil to use in his Christmas Lid Ornament, which I thought was very inventive!
Once they’ve filled their Christmas Lid Ornaments with all things bright and sparkly simply set them aside to dry, preferably overnight.
Once the Lid Ornaments are completely dry tape a piece of ribbon or thread on to the back and your homemade decorations are ready for hanging on the Christmas tree. I like to use a permanent marker and jot a small name and date on the back too because I’m a sentimental Momma who loves to hoard the kids’ masterpieces for crooning over in years to come!
Children will love being able to hang their own homemade and beautiful Christmas Lid Ornaments on the family tree for everyone to enjoy. Nothing says Christmas more than all things shimmery and shiny does it?
