We just adore simple crafts here on Kids Craft Room and are super excited to show you this darling and easy paper owl craft. Aren’t they a total hoot? These colourful paper owls are so quick to make and so cute!  You can hang your owl craft as ornaments or stick them onto homemade greeting cards. Scroll on down to see the quirky gift we made with ours!

We learnt how to make this simple owl craft in just minutes using a new book, Easy Paper Projects written by our lovely friend Maggy Woodley from Red Ted Art. We were totally thrilled when she kindly sent us a copy to look at and share with you and we’re sure you’ll love it too.

Being interested in kids crafts you’ve probably come across the creator Maggy’s tutorials before.  If by chance you aren’t already familiar with her do take a peek. You can find her busy crafting on her blog, Facebook or Youtube. Maggy has a wonderful knack for creating fun crafty ideas that are super simple and easy to do and great for kids (and adults) across the ages.

Our favourite place to spend time with Maggy is on Youtube, in fact she is our Youtube hero! The kids are always wanting to hang out on Youtube and Red Ted Art is one channel I’m happy for them to watch as much as they like! It is so full of crafty inspiration that the kids can engage with straightaway using simple craft materials that we’ve already got!

Red Ted Art’s Youtube videos and her previous book Cute And Easy Crafts For Kids are already a massive hit with the kids and I’m sure this new book Easy Paper Projects will be much loved too. When you watch Maggy’s videos and flick through her books she’ll quickly feel like an old friend. She has such a lovely manner and a great way of talking kids through a craft tutorial making sure they can follow each step easily and quickly. I just love the creative independence and confidence it gives the children. It’s like having your own favourite crafty aunty sitting right next to you in your living room!

Maggy’s new book Easy Paper Projects is filled with a massive 60 fun and easy paper crafts that you’ll be able to start making right away with the paper and cardstock you’ve already got. Unlike other craft books there’s no need for any expensive or fiddly supplies!

It was tricky choosing just one paper craft to show you from the book. There are so many fun ideas to keep the kids busy creating all year round with seasonal and holiday craft ideas too. In the end we choose this paper owl craft as we’re visiting my sister next week and she is totally dotty for owls!

Easy Paper Owl Craft with book

One of the things we love about the Easy Paper Projects book is that it encourages kids to develop the ideas further in their own way. For example Maggy suggests that you could use the same easy paper owls technique to make snowmen or jack-o-lanterns!

Easy Paper Owl Craft with added legs

This inspired us to take the owl craft our own way. We added some feet and a safety pin on the back so the kids can give their aunt (my sister) a cute homemade owl brooch when we visit next week. I’m sure she’ll love it!

If you want to see another review of the book visit The Craft Train. She has a little video at the end of her post showing you a flick through of the book. I thought this was a great idea but it seemed silly to do one too when she’d already done it. No point in reinventing the wheel!

Easy Paper Projects would make such a lovely Christmas or birthday gift for any child that enjoys a bit of creativity and fun and I bet you won’t be able to resist trying a project or two either!
