How To Make Handprint Chick Puppets
We made traditional yellow handprint chicks but really they could be any colour paint your kids like. Kids can have lots of fun painting their own hand and pushing it on to card to make a print for the chick’s body.
Why not make two chicks using a print from each hand? Getting kids to paint their dominant hand with their non-dominant hand is a great way to stretch and develop their motor skills and hand eye co-ordination.
To make your chick puppet’s legs cut out two long strips and two feet from orange card. Also cut a small orange triangle for the chick’s beak.
Concertina the orange card strips to make wibbly wobbly chick legs. This is another great bit of fine motor skill building for little hands.
Glue a chick’s foot onto the end of each leg.
Use glue to attach the card legs onto the back and bottom of your handprint chick puppets.
Bring your chick puppets to life by glueing on their orange beaks and beady googly eyes. Give your chick puppets some fluffy cuteness by glueing on some yellow craft feathers for wings.
Finish off your handprint chick puppets by sticky taping a jumbo straw onto the back.
Now kids can have lots of fun holding the straw to move their handprint chick puppet around and take it on exciting adventures!
Chick puppets are great fun for Easter and Spring time and go beautifully with story books like Chicken Licken and Chick.
I hope you enjoyed this Spring chick craft?
