We love paper plate crafts here on Kids Craft Room. They are so easy to do and there are so many wonderful variations! Today we’re sharing our latest LACED PAPER PLATE WALRUS CRAFT. These cute walruses have adorable yarn whiskers and handprint flippers.
This paper plate and handprint walrus craft has a wonderful laced tummy, so not only do they look super cute but they’re great for building fine motor skills too!
These walruses are fun for preschoolers and elementary grades as a winter craft or to accompany your ocean or arctic study units.
This Laced Paper Plate Walrus goes really well with our other arctic animal crafts. We particularly love our Polar Bear Puppets, Paper Plate Snowy Owls and Pop Up Penguins.

How To Make A Laced Handprint and Paper Plate Walrus
1 – To make the laced body for your walrus cut out the middle of your brown paper plate. (Make sure you keep the plate rim whole.) Then use your hole puncher to make threading holes all around the edge of the hole you cut.
2 – Cut a length of light brown yarn and tape one end onto the back of the paper plate. Lace the yarn back and forth between the holes. (I like to wrap a short piece of sticky tape around the threading end of the yarn to make it more rigid and easier to push through the holes.)
3 – When the walrus tummy is all threaded tape the end of the yarn securely onto the back of the plate.
4 – To make the walrus face, cut out two light brown round cheeks and two white tusks.
5 – Glue the tusks and cheeks onto the middle of the paper plate that you cut out in step 1.
6 – Next glue on some wiggle eyes, a black pom pom nose and some light brown yarn whiskers.
7 – Glue the walrus head onto the rim of the laced body.
8 – Draw around your hands onto light brown cardstock and cut them out.
9 – Attach the handprint flippers onto the back of the paper plate walrus so they poke out on either side.
