This Magnetic Spider and Fly Craft is creative, educational and fun! Little hands can make a cheeky spider and fly play chase around the paper plate spiderweb using the wonder of magnets! To keep things really simple there is a free printable for the spider and fly.
This is a great homemade toy to explore and learn about magnets in a fun and engaging way. This would make a fun Halloween craft for kids or you could use the same principle for other themes too. How about a dog chasing a ball or a cat chasing a mouse? Once children have made the magnetic spider and fly craft they will understand and be able to make their own magnetic game with any theme they like!
For this Magnetic Spider and Fly Craft you can either draw your own spider and fly or use the free printable. Because we know this magnetic toy will be popular with teachers as well as crafty families we’ve created a printable with 5 spiders and flies on each sheet. Making it easy to print enough to make with a whole class.
This Halloween paper plate craft goes really well with our Paper Plate Moving Eye Mummies, Paper Plate Rocking Bats, Paper Plate Bat Puppets and cute Paper Plate Ghosts from Who Arted

To Make Your Magnetic Spider Toy You Will Need:
- Free Printable Spider and Fly ( Get yours at the end of this post)
- Coloured Paper Plates
- Black Sharpie Pen
- Jumbo Craft Sticks
- Small Magnets
- Glue
- Scissors
How To Make A Magnetic Spider and Fly Toy
1 – Print and cut out a free spider and fly picture. (Get yours at the end of this post.)
2 – Take a pair of small magnets and stick one onto the end of a jumbo craft stick and the other onto the back of the spider. Repeat for the fly. (Our magnets were the peel off, self adhesive type but we found the glue wasn’t very strong so we added our own UHU glue instead.)
3 – Make a web for your spider toy by drawing a line vertically, horizontally and diagonally across the middle of your paper plate. This will leave you with eight segments.
4 – Draw some curved lines been each segment divider. Use the photo above as a guide.
5 – Place your spider and fly onto the web on the front of the plate. Position the magnetic craft stick behind the plate so the magnet matches up with the spider and fly.
6 – Now you can move the craft stick and watch the creatures chase each other around the plate as you move them. So much fun!
