How To Make A Paper Plate Tambourine
You can of course paint your homemade tambourine any colour you like but we chose to do rainbows because St Patrick’s Day is just around the corner.
If you choose to make a rainbow tambourine like us, it’s fun for kids to paint their rainbow in full circles around their paper plate. When they fold their plate in half to make the tambourine then of course the rainbow arcs will appear!
Once the paint is dry, fold your paper plate in half and use a pencil to mark where you want to place your bells around the arc of the tambourine.
To attach the bells to your tambourine use the hole punch to punch through your pencil marks. Make sure both sides of the plate are lined up and punched through.
Cut some short sections of ribbon and thread them through the bells and then tie them on to your tambourine craft. Don’t make them too tight as they’ll need to be loose to jingle!
To make the paper plate tambourine nice and plump and soft to hold you can stuff the inside with some cotton balls.
Finish off your paper plate tambourine craft by glueing the edges of the plate together. Clothes pins can be used to hold it in place while it dries.
Jingle Jangle! Your gorgeous rainbow paper plate tambourine is now finished and ready for playing. Homemade instruments are such fun and a fantastic way to inspire musical creativity and experimentation in your kids.
(Safety Notice: Bells are a chocking hazard, never leave your child unattended with this craft.)
