These little Rocking Easter Chicks are simple and quick to make and we’ve  provided a printable template to help you get started. We think they’re an adorable Easter craft to decorate the house or to give as gifts. And would you believe they’re made from old plastic milk bottles!

We get through so many plastic milk bottles in our household I really wanted to develop a few crafts that could make use of them. We’ve already made a pretty Rainbow Mobile for St Patrick’s Day and there are some adorable Easter Baskets coming soon too, so do pop back for a look.Cute Rocking Chick - a fun recycled Easter craft for kids.

How To Make A Rocking Easter Chick

Supplies To Make Rocking Chicks

(Makes 2 chicks)

  • 4 pint plastic milk bottle, washed and dried
  • scissors
  • pencil
  • acrylic paint
  • glue (I used UHU)
  • printable template

How To Make Rocking Chicks For Easter

1 – Starting at the top of the milk bottle, with scissors cut out the 2 large and 2 small flat side panels and trim off any curved bits so that you are left with 4 flat panels.rocking chick

2 – Fold the two large flat panels in half.

3 – Lie them flat on the table in front of you with their folds at the top pointing away from you.

4 – Put the template under the plastic panels taking the dotted template line right to the folded plastic. This ensures the two sides of the chick stay together.  Trace the shape onto the plastic in pencil. The shape itself is very simple, the important bit is to make sure that the top of the chick’s head and tail reach right up to the hinge.

5 – Hold the two panels together and cut out your chicks making sure that you leave the hinged head and tail in place.

6 – For the wings fold the 2 smaller flat panels in half and trace on a wing shape and cut them out. (This way you are cutting out 2 at a time and they match perfectly.)

7 – Paint the chick’s body and wings in your chosen colours and allow to dry.

8 – When the paint is dry blob some glue onto the back of the wing and pop it into place. Quickly check that the chick rocks, if it is too heavy towards the head and falls on its beak then slid the wings backwards a little. It it is too heavy towards the back and falls on to its tail then slide the wings forward a little to balance it out.
