The warmer weather cries out for lots of outside play doesn’t it? We’ve been enjoying our rainbow windsocks and gross motor pom poms and now it’s time for some water play. Yay! Here’s a fun boat craft for you that literally tastes of Summer! Yummy! Raid your fridge for some avocados and make a little Avocado Boat Craft that really floats.
These easy homemade boats are perfect for imaginative play where small world play figures like Playmobil or Sylvanians can go floating around the wading pool or bath!

This Avocado Boat Craft Is Super Simple!
Simply scoop out the avocado flesh and wash and dry the skin. This is a fun activity for kids and of course they can enjoy eating the yummy avocado first.
Next choose the pretty paper you want for your avocado boat’s sails. I just adore this origami book for crafts like this. It has over 400 sheets or gorgeous high quality patterns. We used just a quarter of a sheet for each little avocado boat sail and folded it in half diagonally around a coloured popsicle stick to make a cute little sail and mast. The boat’s sail is easily held in place with a dab of glue from the low temp glue gun.
To finish your boat craft simply glue the popsicle stick mast into place inside the boat’s hull. To help the boat balance stick it slightly to one end of the avocado boat with the sail pointing to the other end. You can pick up a low temp glue gun really cheaply and it’s a great versatile piece of kit to add to your kid’s craft supplies and much safer for little hands than standard hot versions.
That’s it, your avocado boat craft is finished and ready to set sail! Use a wading pool, washing up bowl, sink or even the bath to sail your little boats. Kids can have fun adding their favourite small world characters too for some high sea adventures. Little Playmobil and Sylvanian Family/Calico Critters toys fit in really well. For a bit of added fun why not pop a bit of blue food colouring into the bowl?
