If you’re looking for fun CD craft ideas for kids then you’ve come to the right place. Today we’re sharing this super cool and groovy, CD GLASSES CRAFT. We love how they shimmer and shine and they’re so fun for dressing up with. It’s such a fun summer craft for kids and, of course, it’s always great to repurpose old CDs where we can, to save them from ending up in landfill.
This CD sunglasses craft was made using a simple cardboard frame that’s then decorated with a mosaic of chopped up pieces of CD. Scroll down to see how to cut CDs for mosaics. You’ll kick yourself for not realising how easy it was before now!
Once you start cutting your lovely iridescent pieces of CD I bet you’ll want to be making all sorts of mosaic crafts because they’re so pretty! Be warned, one CD mosaic craft will never be enough!
If you love crafts with CDs as much as we do, check out our CD Scratch Art too, it’s great fun! We also love these totally gorgeous woven CD Dreamcatchers from Pink Stripey Socks and these fun CD Snails from Arty Crafty Kids.

How To Make Fun Glasses With CDs
1 – Decide what shape you want your glasses to be and draw it onto cardstock. We made circular frames but you can be as wild and wacky as you like!
2 – Cut out the frames and attach coloured cellophane with either double sided sticky tape or glue.
3 – Trim off the excess cellophane.
4 – Cut up your CD into small mosaic pieces.
Tips For Cutting CDs
Most scissors will cut through CDs, but if you’re wondering the easiest way to cut CDs then I suggest you soak them in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes first. I’ve also heard that freezing CDs for a few minutes makes cutting easier too but I haven’t tried this for myself. Be very careful when cutting (best done by a grown up) and watch out for any sharp edges!
5 – Glue your CD mosaic pieces around the edge of your glasses frames.
6 – Cut a small bridge from cardstock and stick it on to attach the two frames together.
7 – Cut out some arms for your glasses from cardstock.
8 – Fold over the blunt ends of the arms and glue them to the back of the frames.
Now your groovy CD Glasses Craft is ready to be worn and admired! (Please remember these CD sunglasses are just for fun and won’t offer any real protection against the sun.)
