How To Make Earth Day Flowers
– Start by gathering your materials. Try to get as much as you can from your recycling bin. Things like paper straws and paper cups can be given a rinse and used for crafts. We used some cardstock scraps left over from other crafts to make our daisy’s petals but you could use magazines or newspaper too.
– For each daisy head cut a square of colored paper. Fold it in half and then half again.
– The next step is to fold that in half diagonally to make a triangle. Along the long folded edge sketch half a heart and then cut it out.
– Now open up the folds to reveal your daisy flower heads with heart shaped petals, perfect for sharing some love for the planet on Earth Day!
– Next choose a contrasting color of scrap paper and cut a small circle shape to go into the centre of each flower.
– Glue each completed flower head onto the end of a paper straw.
– To make your Earth Day vase, use blue and green craft paint to make earth shapes on the paper cup. This represents the land and water of planet Earth. (If you wanted to you could make the Earth happy by sticking on some googly eyes and drawing a smile too!)
– Pop the Earth Day flowers into the vase.
– To keep the flowers upright in the vase, screw up some small balls of newspaper and push them into the vase, between the flower stems.
– Now your adorable daisy craft can go on display for Earth Day month! Everyone will love how cute this flower art project looks and it’s a great way to spread the message about Earth Day.
