Happy Earth Day! It’s a great day for kids to enjoy getting creative and celebrating our incredible planet Earth! This Mosaic Handprint Earth Day Craft is super easy to make and is a great way to reuse old paper plates or cereal boxes and paper scraps!
Our mosaic planet Earth is being cradled by two hands, so it’s the perfect Earth Day craft to open up a discussion about caring for our planet.
The Earth’s fate really is in the hands of everyone and there’s so much that we can all be doing to help protect it. Kids are never too young to join in and every little bit we do adds up to be something big!
Visit our Celebration Earth Day Craft for lots of ideas for things kids can do to help protect our planet.
This easy-to-follow paper plate craft is perfect for getting little learners excited about protecting our planet. Kids can have a blast customising their paper plate Earth into different shapes.
You’ll see in the photos below that we actually cut our paper plate earth into a flower shape. It didn’t actually show up that well once we’d glued on our mosaic pieces, but the kids enjoyed it nevertheless. Next time they said they’re going to try a heart shaped Earth instead.
Something we always discuss around Earth Day is the importance of the 3 Rs; reduce, reuse and recycle.
We do a lot of crafting and try to reduce the amount of paper we use but cutting carefully. Then we save all our paper scraps so that they can be reused for other crafts.
In this handprint Earth Day craft we used our green and blue paper scraps to make our land and sea mosaic pieces. You could also cut out blue and green photos from magazines and use them to make your mosaic pieces instead if you prefer.
Cutting the mosaic pieces is a great way to develop scissor skills. You could tear the paper pieces instead if you prefer. Either way it’s all great for fine motor skill development.
