Are your kids fans of Gecko’s Garage? Gecko’s Garage is such a fun and educational YouTube channel for kids. The star of the show is Gecko, a really cheerful and friendly mechanic. With the help of his cute trusty robot sidekicks, The Mechanicals, he runs Gecko’s Garage, the repair shop that cares!
Gecko’s Garage is a great place for kids to laugh and learn. Each Gecko’s Garage episode is packed with fun as Gecko and The Mechanicals keep all the town’s vehicles in tip top condition. We just love Gecko’s positive can-do attitude and how he’s always ready to help anyone in need and to care for his local environment.
This Earth Day, Moonbug Entertainment has sponsored us to bring you a cute and easy, recycled CARDBOARD TUBE GECKO’S GARAGE CRAFT. Now your little Gecko’s Garage fans can make their own happy Gecko to play with. At the same time, they can learn about the importance of recycling and looking after the environment, just like Gecko and The Mechanicals do!
Watch Gecko’s Garage on YouTube
When the kids have finished making their own recycled Gecko, why not watch some Gecko’s Garage adventures together that are perfect for Earth Day?
We love the episode “Green Saves the Trees”. In this show, silly Weasel wants to cut down Green’s (one of The Mechanicals) favourite tree. Luckily, with Gecko’s help they’re able to show Weasel why trees are important for the planet and that they should be protected.
Another episode we really love for promoting an Earth Day message is “Don’t Throw It, Reuse It!” This show sees Mr Weasel up to no good again, dumping his trash in the town! However, Gecko and The Mechanicals love to recycle and they have a wonderful imagination. Before long, they’ve cleaned up all of Weasel’s messy trash and recycled it into a brilliant helicopter!
Earth Day for Kids
One of our favourite things about Earth Day is that it’s a great excuse to get crafty with the kids using things that would often just be thrown away! There are plenty of fun and easy crafts that can be made using recycled materials, and they’re a great way to teach kids about the importance of taking care of the earth.
So, grab your cardboard tubes and let’s make a recycled Gecko. Then check out Gecko’s Garage on YouTube today, and see what else this happy green gecko can teach you about recycling! #InvestInOurPlanet
How To Make a Cardboard Tube Gecko’s Garage Craft
We love re-using rubbish to make fun crafts. We have a cardboard box, that we call our “Model Making Box’. It’s full of useful odds and ends, saved from the trash, that are fun to craft with. Cardboard tubes are always a firm favourite with the kids and can be used for making so many different things! Today we’re showing you how to turn a cardboard tube into your own cute Gecko!
Gecko Craft Supplies:
- Cardboard Tube
- Blue and Yellow Paper Scraps (or paint)
- Buttons
- Cereal Box
- Tin Foil Scraps
- Marker Pens
- Scissors
- Glue
Homemade Gecko’s Garage Toy
1 – To make Gecko’s t-shirt wrap one end of the cardboard tube in yellow scrap paper and tuck in the ends. (You can paint it if you prefer.)
2 – To make the gecko’s dungarees, wrap about two thirds of the other end of the cardboard tube in scrap blue paper (Or paint it.)
3 – Cut two small rectangles and a semi-circle to make the dungaree straps and pocket. We drew some stitching on our pocket too.
4 – Glue the curved edge of the pocket onto the front of Gecko’s dungarees. Glue on the shoulder straps and finish them off with a couple of old buttons. (When our clothes are too worn out to be re-used, we always cut the buttons off and add them to our model making box.)
5 – On the back of an old cereal box sketch out Gecko’s head with a long neck, tail and feet.
6 – Colour them in with marker pens or pencils and then cut them out.
7 – Cut two small circles from white paper scraps and colour them in with yellow and black to make the eyes. Then glue the eyes onto Gecko’s face.
8 – My kids really wanted Gecko to have some tools, as he’s a mechanic. So, we made some little spanners by gluing old tin foil onto the cereal box and then cutting them out. They’re so small and cute!
9 – Now you can put all of your pieces together. Glue the shoes onto the bottom of the cardboard tube and glue the tail onto the back of the dungarees.
10 – Pop Gecko’s neck into the top of the cardboard tube and put a cute little spanner into his pocket!
Now your cute and eco-friendly Gecko mechanic is ready to play. Your kids can have so much fun with him and enjoy looking for more ways to recycle and care for the planet this Earth Day!
