This interactive PAPER PLATE WORM IN APPLE PUPPET is so much fun! We don’t normally like finding worms in our apples but this cute apple and worm puppet will get you smiling I promise! Hidden away inside the juicy red apple is a very happy worm, just waiting to pop up and say hello! Boo!
This cute apple and worm puppet is made even more adorable by the addition of a little handprint leaf. I can never resist a handprint craft can you? We loved them so much that we ended up making red, yellow and green apples!
Making a worm in an apple craft is such a fun and easy way to celebrate autumn. These worm in apple puppets are perfect for kids of all ages and can be done with just a few simple supplies. Once they’ve finished making them, kids can have fun hiding their worm in the apple, out of sight. Then they can give the stick handle a wiggle to make the wriggly worm pop up! What fun!
This would also be a lovely alphabet craft for A is for apple or W is for worm, to compliment your school or home learning.
This worm in apple puppet is great as a fall craft when apple season starts and we can all enjoy an abundance of this lovely fruit. If you’re lucky enough to have an orchard nearby, you might be able to actually go apple picking too. It’s one of my favourite autumn activities to do with the kids, that and eating lots of apple pies and apple crumbles too, of course!
These apple and worm puppets are great for decorating your home for autumn or for giving as funny gifts to friends and family. So let’s get creative and have fun with a worm-in-apple craft this fall!

How to Make a Worm in an Apple Puppet Craft
1 – Start with 1 and a half paper plates. First, paint the front of the whole plate and the back of the half plate. We used acrylic paint because it gives great coverage in just one coat.
2 – Next, glue the paper plate half onto the whole paper plate apple to make a pocket.
3 – To make a nice apple shape, trim a little off the top and the bottom. (Use the photo above as a guide.) This also makes a hole at the bottom for the craft stick handle later.
4 – To make the worm, cut off half the corrugated rim from the discarded paper plate half. Paint it whatever colour you want your worm. We had a green worm in our red apple and a brown worm in our green apple.
5 – When it’s dry, trim the paper plate edge into a worm shape.
6 – Then glue some googly eyes onto your wiggly worm and draw on a smile with a black Sharpie.
7 – Finish off your worm by gluing a jumbo craft stick onto the back.
8 – Next, cut an apple stalk from brown paper and draw around your hand onto green paper to make the apple leaf.
9 – Finish off your paper plate worm in apple craft by gluing in the stalk and leaf and popping the worm inside so the craft stick pokes out the hole in the bottom.
Now you can play, hiding your worm puppet inside your apple and making him pop up to say hello. What a fun autumn craft for kids!
