As a child I was always fascinated by seahorses. They seemed magical and in the same realm as unicorns and fairies to me! I still remember seeing my very first one in real life at an aquarium. Quite amazing!
If you like having a book to go with your kid’s crafts then Eric Carle’s Mister Seahorse would go perfectly with this.
Why not team this paper weaving seahorse craft up with some other beach themed crafts too. We adore wearing our Cheeky Crab Hats, and for interactive craft fans try our Swimming Mermaids and Chomping Shark Puppets! So fun!

How To Make Woven Seahorse Art
1 – If you’re making a bubble wrap print background for your seahorse craft then get started with this first so that it has time to dry. It’s really easy to do and the bubbles are just perfect for ocean themed art aren’t they? Cut a piece of bubble wrap the same size as your paper and paint the bubbles in your chosen colours.
2 – Press a piece of paper onto the paint to make a print and leave to dry.
3 – Print out your free printable seahorse craft template and choose your coloured card. (Get your template free at the bottom of this post.)
4 – Cut out the seahorse craft template and trace around the components onto your coloured cardstock. It’s fun to mix and match the colours.
4 – Gently fold the seahorse in half horizontally and cut from the fold across the belly leaving approx 1/2 inch border. Make sure you don’t cut all the way through to the edge!
5 – Use scissors or a paper cutter to cut thin strips for weaving.
6 – Weave your strips under and over the loom you made from the seahorse body.
7 – When you’ve filled up all the weaving space trim off the excess paper strips and glue down the ends to hold them in place.
8 – Glue on the seahorse’s eye, back and fin.
9 – Finish off your paper weaving seahorse craft by drawing on a smile and details to the fin with a Sharpie.
10 – Glue your seahorse art onto your bubble wrap background.
What a lovely seahorse craft! Why not make a selection of paper weave ocean crafts and make a wonderful underwater art scene for display? Such a great Summer craft! It’s also fun to try weaving with different materials too. Maybe try ribbon, fabric strips or corrugated card?
