Today, I’m delighted to share with you this FREE Printable Valentine Agamograph Craft. It’s a really fun way for your bigger kids to enjoy being creative this Valentine’s Day.
There are seven free printable agamograph templates to choose from. Your older kids (and grown ups too) will love colouring them in and surprising friends and family with a gorgeous interactive Valentine’s Day agamograph.
Look at it from one direction to see a heart and look at it from another to see a Valentine message! So much fun!
What is an Agamograph?
“What is an agamograph?”, I hear lots of you cry! Well, an agamograph is a clever, yet simple to make, optical illusion.
Two images are merged together in such a way that when you look at the agamograph from the left you see one picture, and when you look at it from the right you see another!
For example in the photo below you’ll see that the agamograph shows a picture of a heart when viewed from the left.
But when you view it from the right you’ll see a Valentine’s Day message instead, which you can see in the photo below.
The agamograph is named after the artist called Yaacov Agam who popularised the fascinating technique.
It sounds a bit complicated but it really is very simple I promise!

How To Make A Valentine Agamograph
1 – Download and print the free Valentine’s Day agamograph templates. (Get yours at the bottom of this page.) There are seven different designs to chose from.
2 – Use the colouring guide sheet to help you and colour in your chosen design.
3 – Concertina fold along the dotted lines.
4 – Turn the agamograph from side to side. From one side you’ll see the written message and when you view it from the other side, you’ll see a pretty Valentine heart.
5 – You can mount your agamograph onto a backing sheet of cardstock to give it stability if you want to.
Valentine’s Day is a such a lovely time to show your friends and loved ones how much you care. What better way to do that than by making a pretty Valentine agamograph craft!
Can I Make My Own Agamograph Design?
Yes of course you can make your own agamographs. Using our free printable agamograph template is a great way for kids to understand how the optical illusion works. Once they understand, it is really incredibly simple to make your own.
All you need to do is to draw two pictures on paper that is the same size. Then cut the pictures into equal sized strips. Alternate the strips and glue them onto another sheet of paper. Concertina fold the new mixed picture and you’ll have created your own agamograph!
It really is that easy!
