Perhaps you’d like to try a visit to Butlins if in the UK? The first time we tried it I have to say I was unsure what to expect as it was so unlike anything else we’d been to before and I really wasn’t sure if we’d like it or not but within an hour or so of arriving I knew we were on to a winner, the children absolutely adored it.
So last week was our second time holidaying at Butlins in Skegness. We were blessed with a week of glorious weather but for me one of the joys of Butlins is that there’s so much to do inside too so it really doesn’t matter if the weather’s not that good.
We have crammed in so much. We did lots of activities the children don’t really get a chance to do elsewhere including archery, fencing, crazy golf, climbing and high ropes. The high ropes were a huge hit with Biscuit who really enjoyed the challenge. He was up really high so it was a bit nerve wracking for me to watch!
Here he is venturing out for the first time across between the high platforms.
And it wasn’t long until he was fearlessly swinging himself across wide gaps!
We also visited and revisited the arcades and funfair a lot. The children loved the tuppenny slot machines so it was a really cheap activity and the funfair had a good range of family friendly rides.
We had a few trips to the beach as well and found some crabs and shells and even swam in the sea, it was so warm! We really were blessed with great weather.
I just adore this photo of the boys on the beach. Big brother had great fun sorting out his little brother!!!
The highlight for us though had to be the new indoor and outdoor water areas. We spent simply hours and hours rocketing down water slides and bobbing along on water rapids. Our favourite was Riptide which was a fantastic inflatable boat ride down a massive twisty turny tunnel that we could all do together. We shouted at the top of our voices ,wahoo-ing and yeehaw-ing all the way down!
The children also loved the outside water area with lots of fountains that intermittently squirt up water shoots of various sizes and intensity with accompanying lights and music. Such great fun.
It was so lovely sitting in the sun with a glass of Pimms while the children splashed and ran around in the fountains. Bliss!
One day there were some rubber tubs out for the children to play with in the water fountains. Little Crumb made us roar with laughter as he kept insisting on squeezing himself into them and he enjoyed just relaxing there watching the world go by.
And after all the busyness we relaxed and watched a fantastic circus show one night whose acrobats had us sitting on the edge of our seats and holding our breaths, they were amazing! And we treated ourselves to a viewing of Despicable Me 2 in the resort’s cinema one afternoon too which was great fun and it had been so hot that day it was a relief to get out of the sun and sit down for a while.
We have had such a super time and will definitely be going back. We’ve made memories that I know we’ll treasure for years to come. So if you’re looking for somewhere to spend time together as a family, relax and have fun then Butlins might be just what you’re looking for. It’s a great place to visit all year round and they’ve got plenty of deals on September breaks, perfect for an Autumn getaway.
