They say the lion is the king of the jungle but we think he’s the king of the craft room! He’s certainly got pride of place in ours! This 3D DOILY LION CRAFT is a perfect activity for kids who love lions. It’s a really simple lion craft to make and it uses doilies to create a pretty and textured mane. We think it’s totally roarsome!
These doily lions are wonderfully 3D. Their faces lift off the page and the doilies are loose at the edges to add to the texture and three dimensional effect. The photos of them really don’t do their 3D nature justice!
These cute lions with their doily manes are a great way for kids to celebrate this regal animal. We’ve made ours with blue and orange manes but you can of course use any colours you like.
This lion craft is very simple and easy to make, and kids will love getting creative making their very own lion. So grab your doilies and scroll down below to find out how to make your own lion king! This craft is sure to be a hit with any lion-loving kid.
How To Make A 3D Lion With a Doily Mane

How To Make 3D Doily Lions
1 – Start your lion craft by painting the underside of a small paper bowl yellow. We used acrylic paint so we’d only need one coat.
2 – To make your lion’s mane, cut out a circle of coloured cardstock. Make sure the circle is big enough for the bowl to sit in the middle with a 2 inch / 5cm border.
3 – Now decorate the coloured mane with heart shaped doilies. Just stick them down in the middle, where the bowl will go and leave the very edges free.
4 – Next cut a paper nose and ears and glue them onto the bowl.
5 – Finish off the lion’s face by adding some eyes, a smile and dotted whiskers.
6 – Finally, glue the lion’s face onto the mane and lift the edges of the doilies upwards to add to the 3D effect.
Now your 3D doily lion craft is now ready to roar!
