Are you looking for an out of this world craft idea for you and the kids? Then you’ll be over the moon with this DIY Galaxy Shoes craft! These colourful homemade universe shoes are super easy to make using Sharpie pens and rubbing alcohol. The results are totally cosmic!
This is a great Sharpie craft for big kids and adults but because it’s actually really simple your young kids can enjoy designing their own space themed footwear with a teensy bit of help too. How about Galaxy Shoes for the whole family?
Once you’ve learnt how to make Galaxy Shoes you can use the same Sharpie method for all sorts of textiles. How about a galaxy t-shirt or a fabric galaxy pencil case? The sky’s the limit!
If you’ve got a little space fan they might like to make our astronaut puppets too. There’s a free printable template to keep things easy. We also love this space rocket craft from Non Toy Gifts.
How To Make Galaxy Shoes – A Simple Sharpie Craft
Galaxy Shoe Supplies:
- Canvas Shoes
- Sharpie Permanent Markers
- Rubbing Alcohol
- White Paint
- Masking Tape
- Paint Brush
DIY Galaxy Shoes Tutorial
1 – Gather up your supplies and remove the laces from your canvas shoes. If you want to you can use masking tape around the rubber soles of the shoes to protect them from getting marked.
2 – Colour the canvas part of your shoes with your Sharpie pens. A mix of blues, blacks, purples, pinks and greens work really well and you can leave some areas white too.
3 – Randomly colour the shoes until the canvas parts are coloured.
4 – To give the space effect you need to coat them with your rubbing alcohol. You’ll see the colours start to blend and spread as you add it. I’d recommend doing this outside on some old paper.
5 – Leave the shoes to dry completely, preferably over night.
6 – Use your paintbrush to add some stars.
7 – You can dab on some white areas too.
8 – Coat your brush with quite a bit of white paint and flick white paint across the shoes to create tiny stars and lines throughout the galaxy!
9 – When your homemade galaxy shoes are completely dry you can rethread the laces.
10 – If you want to you can dye the laces first too using the same sharpie and alcohol method.
Enjoy your new DIY Galaxy Shoes, they are out of this world!
