Today we’re sharing a simple no cook play dough recipe that we coloured naturally with blackberries. (Of course you could use any berries you like, maybe strawberries, raspberries or elderberries?
It’s a perfect play dough recipe for imaginative pretend food play like ice cream parlours.
We had a lovely day in the sun today foraging for blackberries for a tasty crumble tea-time treat. The children loved how stained their fingers and tongue got so I promised them they could have some blackberries to play with and crush up when we got home.
We came up with the idea of blackberry no cook play dough because when we crushed the blackberries the colour was so vibrant and the smell so delicious it reminded us of treats from our local ice cream parlour.
This is a quick and easy no-cook play dough recipe.
It’s a really easy and quick no-cook play dough recipe with lots of salt so that it should last for a few days before having to be discarded. We stored ours in the fridge to help.

How To Make No Cook Berry Play Dough
Mix together the flour and salt.
Crush the blackberries to a soft pulp.
Stir the blackberries and oil into the flour and salt with enough water to make a thick soft dough and knead until smooth.
Supplies To Make Pretend Ice Cream Cones
On a piece of A4 card draw round a side plate and cut out the circle.
Cut the circle in half and draw a criss-cross texture across both semi-circles.
Roll each semi-circle into a cone and hold in place with sticky tape.
We loved the rich colour of our blackberry play dough and the children really enjoyed being able to create the colour themselves rather than through using a bottle of food colouring.
Play dough is fantastic for developing fine motor skills and for all sorts of imaginative play. We used our blackberry play dough for an ice cream parlour play activity but it would be great of all sorts of pretend food.
(Store your blackberry no cook play dough in a plastic airtight container in the fridge to keep it fresh for longer.)
