Let’s have fun getting creative and celebrating Earth Day together with this cute PAPER PLATE EARTH DAY CRAFT. Kids will love how this paper plate Earth is smiling and wearing a party hat to celebrate all that we do to protect our amazing planet!
Earth Day crafts and activities are a great way to introduce kids to the concept of caring for the natural world, and making changes to our daily habits that can help have a positive impact on protecting our amazing planet Earth. (One of our favourites is this Fizzy Earth Day Science Experiment.)
What’s more, this Celebration Earth Day craft is made out of an old paper plate that we’ve taken out of our recycling bin and are re-using.
You don’t need to use a paper plate for this Earth Day craft, and could easily re-use an old cereal box or parcel packaging cut into a circle instead. There are so many materials that can be saved from the rubbish and be used for crafting!
Why is it Important to Celebrate Earth Day?
Earth Day is such an important reminder of how precious our planet is and how we can all work together to help protect it.
Personally, I know that I can feel overwhelmed when I hear of climate change, deforestation, loss of natural habitats and ecological disasters etc, and I know that my kids are greatly impacted by these worries too.
It’s easy to feel that we can’t do anything; that one person, one household, one school can’t make a difference! However, every positive action we take to help our planet, however big or small, all helps add up to make a big difference!
I think it’s really important for our kids, that we celebrate the positive steps that we can take to help protect our planet. It’s very easy to implement small changes in our day to day lives that do have a positive impact.
Easy Steps Kids Can Take To Help Save The Planet
Every Earth Day, I chat with my kids about things we can do to help save the planet. Here’s a few of the ideas they thought were easy for kids to do, that they wanted me to share with you. I bet your own kids can come up with lots of other ideas too.
- Remember the 3 Rs – reduce, reuse, recycle.
- Craft with recycled materials such as old cereal boxes and newspapers.
- Turn lights off when you leave the room.
- Don’t leave taps running when you’re cleaning your teeth.
- Walk or cycle instead of travelling in the car.
- Donate old books and toys rather than throwing them away.
- Make a bug hotel for the garden.
- Plant flowers for the bees and butterflies.
- Grow your own fruit and vegetables.
- Use eco friendly cleaning products and toiletries.
- Shower instead of taking a bath.
- Put on a jumper before putting on the heating.

How to Make a Earth Day Celebration Craft From a Paper Plate
1 – Sketch out the land masses onto your paper plate Earth.
2 – Colour in the land in green with pencil crayons. You can use all one colour or a selection of green shades to give the feel of contours.
3 – Then colour in the sea areas in blue or a selection of blue colours.
4 – To make a face for your Earth, cut out two large white paper eyes and two slightly smaller black paper eyes, a large black semicircle mouth and a smaller red semi circle tongue.
5 – Glue the black eyes onto the white eyes. Then to make the mouth, glue the red tongue upside down onto the black semi circle and trim off the excess.
6 – Glue the eyes and mouth onto the Earth to give it a happy face.
7 – Cut a slice out of a paper plate to make a party hat for your Earth. Decorate it any way you like. We coloured ours in with pencil crayon stripes.
8 – Finally, glue the hat onto the Earth.
