We think this Apple Tree Hat craft is so much fun to make and wear. The trees are full of juicy red apples and sit in a gorgeous field of grass that’s cut to give a super 3D texture.
These autumn hats are really easy to make with the printable template, which comes in full colour and also black and white.
This apple tree craft is great for Autumn, Johnny Appleseed activities and harvest or tree study units.
The coloured apple tree crown template can be used straight away and the black and white template can either be coloured in or traced onto coloured cardstock.
The template comes with round apples to cut and stick or you can use other items too, like pom poms, buttons or scrunched tissue paper if you want to make them more 3D. We tried some red pompoms and think they look fab!
If you’re making this craft with very young children, we’ve also added a template that is already complete with its apples so there’s less cutting out needed.
There is an individual use template pack and a classroom pack to suit your different needs. Both packs come with US spelling and letter size and also UK spelling and A4 size.

How To Make Apple Tree Crowns
1 – Cut out the template pieces. (Colour or trace them first if you are using the B/W version.)
2 – Glue the tree trunk to the middle of a rectangle headband. Glue the treetop to the trunk.
3 – Glue on the apples. You can use the paper apples or buttons and pom poms etc. You can save some apples to glue to the grass later if you want to.
4 – Turn the wavy headband piece into grass by cutting lines all along the wavy edge towards the middle. (Don’t cut all the way through!) Herb scissors can make this very quick.
5 – Glue the grass onto the front headband under the tree. You can add some fallen apples too if you want to.
6 – If your cardstock is thin and your tree is floppy, reinforce it by taping a craft stick onto the back.
7 – Staple the back headband piece onto the front headband piece to make a wearable loop. (Measure it around your head to get a good fit.)
