Instructions For The Cat in the Hat Handprint Art
(Scroll down for the Fish instructions.)
1 – We create the Cat in The Hat handprint craft by painting his head and hat with one handprint and and then his body with another. To begin, paint the palm of your hand with a big white circle with a black border, this will be his face. Then paint your fingers with red and white stripes leaving the thumb clean.
2 – Press your painted hand onto the canvas or cardboard to create a print.
3 – To create Cat In The Hat’s body paint your hand with a big white circle surrounded by black, and with black fingers and thumb.
4 – Spin the canvas around and make a second print joining on to the first but with the fingers going in the opposite direction to make the cat’s legs and arms. (Older children will be able to spread their thumb and little fingers out to the side for the arms.)
5 – Use a painted fingertip to add black ears.
6 – Use a painted fingertip to add a red bow tie.
7 – Once the paint is dry you can sketch on your Cat In The Hat’s face with pencil and then go over it with black Sharpie. Grab yourself a copy of The Cat In The Hat book to get more ideas for facial expressions.
Doesn’t he look fantastic?
Instructions For Dr Seuss Fish Handprint Art
1 – Create your Dr Seuss Fish Handprint art by covering your entire hand with orange paint and printing it onto the canvas or card. Then add two white eyes using your fingertips.
2 – When the paint has completely dried use something round like a plate to draw around with a pencil to create the fish bowl. Sketch in the flat bottom of the bowl and the opening at the top.
3 – Sketch in Fish’s face and the water with pencil and then go over it with black Sharpie when you’re happy with your design.
4 – Thin down some blue paint to create water inside the fishbowl.
We love how these Dr Seuss handprint crafts turned out. So fun! Wouldn’t they look great hanging in a bedroom or reading nook?
