Oh my, we’ve had such great feedback for the Cat In The Hat handprint crafts we shared with you earlier this week that we just had to share this super fun Fox In Socks Handprint Craft too.
Fox in Socks is another classic Dr Seuss book I bet you’ve got on your bookshelf already. Featuring Fox who says an increasingly complicated set of tongue twisters that drive his poor tongue tied friend Knox crazy as he tries and fails to say them too. Such a fun story that is great for building children’s early literacy skills as they develop an ear for rhyming words.
Today we’ve got a Fox In Socks handprint craft and a Knox handprint craft too so you and the kids can enjoy making and acting out both of the book characters.
We think this handprint craft is fantastic for World Book Day and Dr Seuss’ birthday celebrations. If you make them on a canvas it would be an adorable piece of book art for a bedroom, classroom or reading nook too.
Don’t forget to take a peek at our some of our other Dr Seuss inspired crafts while you’re here too. We love the simplicity of these Thing 1 and Thing 2 Puppets and The Cat In The Hat and Fish Handprint Art ideas are just adorable!

How To make a Gorgeous Fox In Socks Handprint Canvas
1 – This Fox in Socks craft is made up of two handprints. Start by covering your hand with orange paint and printing it on your canvas at the top to one side. This will become Fox in Socks’ head and the thumb will be his nose.
If you are printing with your left hand you’ll want to position it at the top right of the canvas and if you’re printing with your right you’ll want to position it at the top left of the canvas. (Older children may be able to separate their middle fingers to make a gap between the fox’s ears too.)
2 – To make Fox’s body paint the tips of your fingers blue and the rest of your hand orange. Turn your canvas upside down so that your blue fingerprints become the fox’s feet. (Be sure this handprint is going on the canvas in the opposite direction to the first handprint.)
3 – Use a black fingerprint to make Fox in Sock’s nose and white fingerprints to make his eyes.
4 – When your paint is completely dry use a pencil to sketch on Fox’s face. When you’re happy with your design go over the pencil marks with your black Sharpie. Grab yourself a copy of the wonderful Fox In Socks book for ideas for his facial expressions.
Doesn’t this Fox art look fantastic? It would be absolutely super hanging in a bedroom or nursery.
Knox – Dr Seuss Handprint Craft Instructions
1 – This Knox handprint craft is also made with two handprints. Make his head by painting your hand, index finger and little finger light yellow. (Leave your two middle fingers bare.) Paint the base of your palm with a pink stripe and print it at the top of your canvas.
2 – To make Knox’s body paint your whole hand with a darker yellow paint.
3 – Turn your canvas upside down and print your yellow hand below Fox’s head. The fingers on the two handprints should be pointing in opposite directions.
4 – Use white fingerprints to paint on two eyes.
5 – When the paint is completely dry use a pencil to sketch on Knox’s face and when you’re happy with it go over the design in black Sharpie.
Ta-dah doesn’t Knox look awesome?
