- Heart Shaped Paper Punches
Valentine Caterpillars Step-by Step Instructions
– Start by sketching a leaf shape onto green cardstock. (Our Leaf Sensory Art Tutorial has a free set of leaf templates you can download if you need them.)
– Then, draw on some veins and cut the leaf out.
– Next, use different sized heart punches to cut heart shapes out of the leaves. (I love this set of 3 paper punches.) We cut a medium heart and then some tiny hearts around it.
– To make the love bug’s antennae, cut a short length of pipe cleaner and fold it into a V shape. (If you don’t have pipe cleaners you could always use pieces of paper instead.) Cut two purple, pink or red hearts and glue them on to the end of each antenna.
– Glue the antennae and two googly eyes onto a pom pom to make the caterpillar’s head.
– To make the body of the caterpillar glue one pom pom onto another.
– Keep going to make the body of the caterpillar as long as you like. We finished off the tail of our caterpillar with a couple of smaller pom poms.
– Now glue the finished caterpillar onto his leaf home! You can position it in lots of different ways.
a – You can raise some of the pom poms up a little to make it look like the caterpillar is wiggling along his leaf.
b – You can curl the caterpillar’s body round and raise it’s head into the air.
– Now your Valentine’s Day Caterpillar is ready to spread some joy and love. Put them on display or gift them to friends!
