How To Make Cute Snowman Ornaments
Throughout the year I always save any transparent lids we get from yoghurt pots and tubs of soft cheese or cream. They are so useful for crafts like these snowman ornaments and they were perfect for our colourful sun catchers too. To make your snowman kids start by painting the lids with white acrylic paint. I love to use acrylics with kids because they stick well to most things and give good coverage too.
Once the paint is dry tape a little loop of butchers twine onto the back for hanging on the Christmas tree and then you’re ready to start adding features to your snowman ornament.
We used super cute polka dot buttons for the snowman’s eyes and then mixed Christmas coloured small buttons for the snowman’s cheeky smile. UHU glue is super for this snowman craft because it supports the weight of the buttons really well and dries quickly. I’m never without it in our craft supplies.
We added a carrot nose and wooly scarf to our snowman ornament using felt scraps. Felt’s a super textile for kids to work with because it cuts easily and doesn’t fray.
I just love how cute our snowman buddies look and can’t wait to hang them on the Christmas tree. I might even hang some in the window too as part of our Christmas decor – they’d double up as adorable Winter sun catchers too don’t you think? And you can guarantee that when all the festivities are over I’ll be packing these snowmen away safely until next year when I’ll be sniffling over them along with all the rest of my kid made Christmas treasures!
