It’s November so of course we’re enjoying lots of Thanksgiving crafts at the moment. To add to our collection we’ve made this super fun MOVING MAYFLOWER CRAFT FOR KIDS. It’s really easy to make with the PRINTABLE TEMPLATE and you simply wiggle the popsicle stick handle to make your ship sail along the ocean waves!
This is a lovely Mayflower craft for Thanksgiving but we know that kids enjoy boat crafts all year round. So, to make this boat craft useable for lots of different occasions, we’ve included two name labels. One says “Mayflower” and the other is left blank so that you can call your ship anything you like. Of course, you could leave the name label off altogether if you prefer.
As well as a Thanksgiving Mayflower craft you could use this printable template as a boat craft for an ocean study unit, or as a galleon ship for history. If you’ve got a little pirate fan then why not draw a skull and crossbones onto the sails and turn it into a fun pirate ship craft too?
Why not team your Mayflower craft up with some fun interactive Thanksgiving turkey crafts too. We love our Pop-Up Turkeys and our Walking Turkey Puppets!
If your kids want to know more about the Mayflower they might enjoy these books: The Story Of The Pilgrims (a picture book) and If You Were A Kid On The Mayflower.

How to Make a Movable Mayflower Boat For Thanksgiving
1 – Cut out the template pieces. (If using the B/W version colour it in first.)
2 – Fold the front sea along the dotted lines to make a step. The bottom line folds up and the top line folds back/behind.
3 – Apply glue to the two “glue” rectangles on the sky and sea piece. Line up the folded front sea piece and stick it on. There will be a small gap in the middle for the popsicle handle to go later.
4 – Glue the masts onto the boat and then glue on the sails.
5 – Glue on a name label and portholes. You can use the Mayflower one provided, or write your own in the blank version.
6 – Sticky tape a jumbo popsicle stick to the back of the boat so that it pokes out of the bottom.
7 – Slide the boat between the two pieces of sea and poke the popsicle stick handle through the gap at the bottom.
8 – Wiggle the handle from side to side to make your boat move.
