Paper Plate Apple Lacing Craft Tutorial
This apple lacing craft is perfect for Autumn and back to school time and it’s fun for healthy eating study units too!
Each one is made using just one paper plate so it’s super thrifty even if you’re making it with a whole class of children.
To Make This Cute Paper Plate Apple Lacing Craft You’ll Need:
- Paper Plate
- Martha Stewart All Over The Page Punch
- Acrylic Paint
- Yarn
- Glue
- Scissors
- Eye Stickers
- Black Sharpie Pen
- Sticky Tape
How To Make A Paper Plate Apple Craft For Threading
1 – Start by cutting a simple apple shape out of your paper plate. You can see the shape we cut in the photo above.
2 – Use the bigger piece of paper plate you cut off to shape an apple leaf and the smaller piece to shape the apple stalk.
3 – Cut 6 holes out of your apple for the worm to go through.
To make the apple lacing holes we used an amazing All Over The Page Punch. Boy do I wish we’d discovered these punches years ago!
They are magnetic so you can easily line up the bottom and top cutting plates super easily anywhere on the page! You can buy them in a variety of shapes, so I’ll be adding to my punches collection to be sure! Watch the video to see it in action.
4 – When your shapes are ready then paint your apple craft pieces and let them dry. We made red apples but you can make green or a mix of the two too of you prefer.
5 – Glue your apple leaf and stalk into place.
6 – To make the worm for your apple fold 4 of the circles in half and glue them in a row slightly overlapping each other. We glued ours into a slightly curved line.
7 – Cut a long piece of yarn that will be used for lacing. Lay it along the fold line of the circles and then glue the circles halves shut, encasing the yarn inside.
8 – To make the head for your worm cut your remaining two circles slightly smaller so that they will fit through the holes in the apple. Add eye stickers and a smiley face to each one. Finish your worm by gluing the faces on to either side at the end of the worm’s body.
9 – Finish your apple lacing craft by attaching the worm’s thread to the back of the paper plate apple with sticky tape.
Now your apple lacing craft is ready to play with! What a hungry worm, he sure has eaten a lot of that apple!
