How To Make Fun and Easy Dinosaur Crafts with Paper Plates
This fun dinosaur craft is a wonderful opportunity for little ones to get creative and let their imaginations run wild!
It’s a fantastic craft to foster kids’ love for these fascinating prehistoric creatures and to build fine motor skills too.
Craft Supplies:
- Rainbow Colored Paper
- Paper Plates
- Gold Glitter Card
- Black Pen
- Acrylic Paint
- Paint Brush
- Scissors
- Glue Stick or Sticky Tape
Step-By-Step Instructions
1 – Start with a folded paper plate and cut it in half along the fold line to make a semi circle. This will become the body of the dinosaur.
2 – Next, paint it with your favourite colour. We love to use acrylic paint because it covers the plate in just one coat. Encourage your children to choose different colors and patterns to personalise their dino body.
3 – Now you can have fun making the head of the dinosaur, its tail and legs. You can make them any shape you like to create your own favourite dinosaur!
The dinosaur’s legs can be long and thin or short and wide. The head shape can be small and round like our dinosaurs or broad and wide or long and pointed! Your special dinosaur can have an amazingly long sweeping tail or a cute little stubby one. Have fun creating the dinosaur shape the YOU want! Anything goes!
Sketch out your dinosaur body parts onto the gold glitter card and cut them out. Then use your craft glue to attach them onto the back of the paper plate.
4 – To craft the rainbow-coloured spines that will run along your dinosaur’s back, start by selecting an array of brightly coloured construction paper. Then, cut a short and narrow rectangle out of each colour.
5 – Gently bend each strip into a colourful arch and glue them onto the curve of the plate at the back. This loop will give the spines a three-dimensional effect that pops, bringing wonderful texture and colour to your dinosaur!
6 – Your dinosaur needs eyes to see where’s he’s going and a happy little smile to say hello! Simply cut them out of paper and glue them on. Then use a black marker pen to draw the pupil. (If you prefer you could use googly eyes too.)
This is such a fun craft for young children or older children…in fact anyone who’s a lover of all things dinosaur! It’s a wonderful way for everyone to engage with the prehistoric world.
Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or just beginning your creative journey, this paper plate dinosaur project promises a roaring good time!
