I’m always on the look out for ways to craft with trash. It’s a great way to encourage kids to care for the environment and it makes the crafting session really thrifty too. This week our weather is finally beginning to feel a bit Wintery so we’ve been busy turning old tin cans into fun desk tidies and a bowling game with this cute and easy Tin Can Snowman Craft.

TIN CAN SNOWMAN CRAFT - Kids will love turning old tin cans into Snowman Desk Tidies and a Snowman Bowling Game with this cute and easy Tin Can Snowman Craft. A fun Winter craft for kids. #snowman #snowmancrafts #wintercrafts #wintercraftideas #wintercraftsforkids #recycledcrafts #tincan #craftideasforkids #kidscraftroom

My kids really love snowman crafts like these desk tidies and our Snowman Lanterns because we rarely get enough snow to make a real snowman. One year we were fortunate enough to get a good snowfall and made Painted Snowcats instead of snowmen but often we get no real snow at all!

Playing with Snow Gel and seeing these cheeky tin can snowman crafts sitting on our work tables gives us a feel of Winter even when the weather isn’t co-operating!

How To Make A Tin Can Snowman

Wash and dry the tin cans and make sure there are no sharp edges. We’ve got a tin opener that leaves the edges blunt which is great!

Paint the cans and allow to dry. We used acrylic paint because it has good coverage and staying power. You might need two layers depending on the quality of your paint.

Glue on eyes, noses, scarves etc. We used a selection of buttons and felt but your kids could use anything they like. UHU glue is a favourite of ours when it comes to crafts like this because it dries quickly so the snowman crafts features stay where the children want them rather than sliding about!

We’ve used our tin can snowman crafts as desk tidies but you could use them to store anything you like and how about lining them up and rolling a ball at them to make your own snowman bowling game?

This tin can snowman craft is super simple to make and easy for kids of all ages to enjoy. The ones you see in the photo are made by big kids but little kids can easily enjoy this simple craft too. Remember to let children explore and experiment with the craft idea in any way they like. Who knows, they might want a blue snowman or a pink snowman; a snowman with five eyes or even a fluffy tail!

Craft ideas you see on this site are designed to be starting point ideas only and for us to encourage children’s creativity it’s important to let kids have the freedom to approach each craft in their own unique way. You can read more about my approach to art and crafts in my about me section.
