How To Make Jumping Frog Puppets-Witch’s Brew Paper Plate Craft
Frog Puppets
1 – To make your jumping frog puppets print out our free cute frog template. (Pick yours up at the end of this post.) There are four frogs to chose from. Three with different facial expressions (grimacing, shocked and smiling) and one blank so you can create your own face if you prefer.
Print your frogs onto green card or paint them. Cut them out and add their fun sticker eyes and expressions.
2 – Your jumping frog puppets need quite long handles so stick together two craft sticks and glue one end onto the back of the grimacing frog and the smiling frog. Save the shocked frog to stick onto your witch’s cauldron later.
Witches Cauldron
3 – Now we need a witch’s brew paper plate craft for your frog puppets to jump around in. (Poor things!) Cut the middle out of one paper plate and paint it black. Cut a second paper plate in half and trim a flat edge along the bottom to make the base of your cauldron. Paint it black too.
4 – To make the witch’s brew to go inside your cauldron glue a double thickness of tissue paper onto the back of your half paper plate. Make sure it peeks over the top like a bubbling witch’s potion.
5 – To make the handles for your witch’s cauldron cut about a third from the round paper plate. Cut that section in half and retain one half. With the remaining cut section divide it in two and shape them into cauldron side handles. Use the photo above as a guide.
6 – Staple your witch’s cauldron top handle into place on the back of your paper plate craft.
7 – Glue your witch’s brew side handles onto the front of your paper plate.
8 – To secure a jumping frog puppet onto the cauldron staple the section of paper plate you retained in step 5 onto the bottom back of the cauldron. This makes a little pocket your your frog puppet’s handle to slide up and down in.
9 – We thought it was super fun to finish off our witch’s brew craft by sticking our shocked frog onto the cauldron’s handle.
Now your jumping frog puppets in a witch’s brew paper plate craft is ready for playing with, what fun! You have a bubbling cauldron full of potion and two frog puppets. One looking happy because he’s not in the potion and one looking very worried because he’s trying to escape from the potion! And don’t forget the little frog that’s watching on from the Cauldron’s handle, he’s looking very shocked to see his friend stuck in the witch’s brew!
This is such a fun Halloween craft for kids and a great way to encourage some simple story telling as they weave an adventure for the frogs from their imaginations.
