How To Make Washi Tape Heart Suncatcher Craft
You can see how we made Washi Tape Heart Suncatchers using the printable template in the video above. You can print the template straight onto coloured card or print it onto white card to colour yourself. (Get your free template at the bottom of this tutorial.)
If you don’t have a printer or want to make a different shape of suncatcher then you can see how to make them free hand below.
Start by folding a piece of cardstock in half and draw on your heart shape.
Holding the folded card together cut out 2 hearts. Now cut out the middle of each heart to make a heart frame. Try to get them to match if you can. (Cutting out the inner heart is a bit tricky and little hands may need some adult help.)
Lay your washi tape strips across one heart in any direction and colour combination you like. Washi tape is lovely for kids to work with because it can be easily torn to length rather than cut. (Try not to press down hard on the tape in the middle as it will try to stick to the table top beneath.)
Tear off the ends of each piece of tape so that it doesn’t protrude over the outer edge of the heart. If this is too tricky for young children you can always trim off any excess with scissors before moving on to the next step.
When laying tape across the top of the heart’s arches you will need to break it into two sections so it doesn’t straddle the gap.
When you’ve put on as much washi tape as you want put some glue onto the second heart and stick it over the cut washi tape ends to hide them.
Finish your washi tape heart suncatcher craft off by trimming any protruding bits of card or tape.
Now your heart suncatchers are ready to go straight on the window. The washi tape back will gently stick so you don’t need any glue or thread for hanging them. It’s easy to gently peel them off and rearrange them as you like. Don’t they look pretty?
If you want to give your heart suncatchers as gifts you can temporarily stick them to a piece of Saran Wrap / Cling Film to protect the stickiness until they’re ready to go on the window.
