I always love handprint crafts because they make such adorable keepsakes. This Woven Paper Plate Bee Craft has cute handprint wings that are sure to delight and be something to cherish for years to come. These adorable bees have woven stripes which makes this a great insect craft to build your children’s fine motor skills and makes good use of your yarn scraps too.
One of my favourite things about this simple bee craft is that is has wide yellow stripes that leave plenty of room to write personalised messages. We love to write puns using the word BEE. How about a “BEE MINE” or “YOU’RE THE BEE’S KNEES” for a sweet bee Valentine craft or “BEE HAPPY” for a birthday? We’ve got lots more pun ideas below.

How To Make Bumble Bees Out Of Paper Plates
1 – Start your Woven Paper Plate Bee Craft by painting a paper plate bright yellow.
2 – Once the paper plate is dry cut out 4 or 5 notches along each side of the plate. Line the notches up in pairs for the bee’s stripes.
3 – To make the bee’s stripes the children are going weave/wrap the black yarn around the bee using the cut out notches. It’s easier if you secure the yarn to the plate with a bit of sticky tape on the back before they start weaving.
4 – Once the children have finished making the black and yellow stripes, tape the end of the yarn onto the back of the paper plate.
5 – This bee craft has adorable handprint wings so have the children draw around their hands and cut them out.
6 – Tape the handprint wings onto the back of the bee.
7 – We made out bee antennae by cutting a section of black pipe cleaner and folding it in half to make a V shape. If you don’t have any pipe cleaners you could just use black paper or card instead.
8 – Stick the bee’s antennae onto the back of the plate and glue on some large googly eyes to the front then use the marker pen to draw a cute smile!
9 – This woven paper plate bee craft is super cute as it is or you can embellish it with a written message.
I just love how cute and simple this honey bee craft is and the written message idea means the kids and I can use the craft for all sorts of occasions BEE it Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day or a birthday! Fun, fun, fun!
