I am so excited to share this interactive Moving Baby Hedgehog Craft with you today. It’s one of my favourite crafts of the year so far because it really is so darn cute!
The hedgehog has the sweetest little face and paws and its head moves from side to side in the most adorable way! When you hold the hedgehog baby in your open palms you can wiggle its front paws with your index fingers too.

Our hedgehog babies are really easy to make with the printable template which comes in full colour, and also black and white which children can colour in and decorate themselves.
This is a such a lovely autumn craft and is a great addition to nocturnal, hibernation and woodland study units too.
Moving Baby Hedgehog Craft Tutorial
Supplies to Make Movable Hedgehogs:
- Printable Hedgehog Template
- Printer Cardstock
- Split Pins / Paper Fasteners
- Marker Pen
- Scissors
- Glue
- Optional: Colouring Pens etc, Wiggle Eyes, Pom Pom Nose
How To Make A Moving Hedgehog Baby
1 – Cut out the hedgehog template pieces. (Colour them first if you are using the B/W version.)
2 – With a hole puncher, make a hole at the edge of the round tummy and above the chin on the face.
3 – Use a split pin / paper fastener to attach the face to the tummy.
4 – Glue eyes on and then glue the nose onto the end of the paper fastener/split pin. (You can use the paper eyes and nose from the template or add your own wiggle eyes and pom pom nose instead.)
5 – Glue the round tummy onto the spiky body. Do not put glue on the back of the face! (Give the face a wiggle from side to side to make sure it is free moving.)
6 – Glue the ends of the front legs on to the tummy. Do not glue the paws down.
7 – Now glue the back feet on.
8 – Draw on a smile and any other details you’d like, such as inner ears, whiskers etc.
9 – Make your hedgehog baby move by rotating its head from side to side. If you hold it flat in your open hands you can use your fingers to make its paws move too.
