This YARN WRAPPED REINDEER CRAFT FOR KIDS was lots of fun to make and we created them using fallen sticks that we gathered from outside. I love the rustic simplicity of them. We’ve sat some of them on our mantlepiece and have tied ribbon to others to make yarn wrapped reindeer ornaments to hang on the Christmas tree. They all look super cute!
These are such easy yarn wrapped Christmas ornaments that the whole family can enjoy making. It’s a great Christmas craft for snuggling up inside to make on a winter’s day after a chilly walk outside to collect your sticks.
I love that you can easily make these rustic reindeer in different sizes depending on the size of your sticks. My boys are quite keen to try making a jumbo one to hang on the wall above our fireplace too. That’s a craft for another day and I’m sure it will look great!

How To Make a Yarn Wrapped Reindeer
Rustic Reindeer Craft Supplies:
Stick and Yarn Reindeer Craft Tutorial
1 – This yarn wrapped reindeer craft for kids is built on a simple stick frame. Use a low temp glue gun (adults only) to glue two sticks of equal length together to make a V shape.
2 – Then take a shorter stick and glue it horizontally across the V to make the reindeer’s triangle head with sticky out ears at the side.
(If you are doing this stick reindeer craft with young children we’d recommend prepping the stick frame yourself before hand.)
3 – Tie a length of brown yarn to the bottom of the reindeer’s head and start wrapping and wrapping the yarn around the sticks. This is great for developing fine motor skills.
4 – Keep wrapping and wrapping yarn until you’ve filled the reindeer’s face in. then tie the end of the yarn to the stick and tuck the end inside to hide it.
5 – You can bring your reindeer ornament to life by glueing on googly eyes and a red pompom nose. We used wiggle eyes and a red glitter pom pom but you could use paper features, buttons or beads if you prefer.
6 – To hang the Yarn Wrapped Reindeer on the Christmas tree we tied a length of red gingham ribbon to the top of the head. If you’re making a reindeer ornament to sit on a shelf rather than the tree you can leave off the ribbon.
7 – You can have fun making different sized yarn reindeer or using different shades of brown yarn. When you’re done either hang them on the Christmas tree or lean them up on a shelf.
