The cute squirrels have heads that nods from side to side, tails that swish and an acorn that opens up so you can write a message inside.
There is a printable squirrel craft template so they are really easy to make. The template comes in B/W which you can either colour in or trace around and also in 2 ready coloured variations too.
The photographs show squirrels made with the addition of wiggle eyes and a pompom nose but paper eyes and noses are included in the template if you prefer.

3 – Use your hole puncher to make a hole at the bottom of the squirrels body and at the end of the tail.
4 – Position the squirrel’s tail behind the body and secure it with a paper fastener.
5 – Make a hole at the top of the squirrel’s body and at the bottom of the head. Secure the head onto the front of the body with a paper fastener.
6 – On the head glue the squirrel’s teeth just below the split pin. Glue the outer nose piece above the teeth, slightly overlapping and finish off with a small black pom pom or the black paper nose.
7 – Glue on some eyes and the inner ears.
8 – To make the acorn card fold the large oval in half.
9 – Glue the acorn cap along the fold to make an acorn that opens and shuts.
10 – Glue the acorn onto the front of the squirrel’s body and then glue on the two round paws. If you want to you can use black marker pen to add detail to the paws, tail and acorn cap.
11 – Open up the acorn card and write your surprise message inside. How about “Happy Autumn”, I’m Nuts About You”, “Let’s Go Nuts!”
These paper squirrels are such a lovely Autumn craft for kids and we think they’d make gorgeous Squirrel Valentine cards for squirrel fans too. The message “I’m nuts about you” is just perfect!
