I wasn’t sure whether to call this post a Hanging Bat Craft For Kids or a Hanging Bat Art Idea. It’s made up of a cool combo of art and craft, so I’ll leave it to you to decide!
This Halloween craft has paper bats that hang upside down from a spooky tree on a dramatic painted sunset.
The bat’s wings are folded up and when you open them there is a cool surprise Halloween message inside.
This hanging bat craft is really easy to make and there is a free printable bat template and 6 free printable message labels to choose from too.
We’ve placed our bat craft on a painted sunset but if you don’t want to paint, you can just use a plain coloured paper background instead. Either way, this bat craft is super spooky and super cool!
You can hang them on the wall as Halloween decorations or give them to friends as Halloween cards! Fang-tastic!
Why not team them up with some of our other favourite Halloween crafts? We love our Bat Puppets, Flying Witches, Spider Pizza Recipe and Bat Bookmarks from Easy Peasy and Fun.

2 – Cut out the individual message labels.
3 – Trace around the bat pattern onto black cardstock and cut it out.
4 – Making your sunset art background is really easy. On your white card squirt a bit of yellow paint at the bottom, orange in the middle and red at the top.
5 – Wet your brush and spread the yellow paint from side to side covering the bottom of the card and then move upwards towards the orange paint, and then the red. The colours will merge and blend when they meet giving a lovely sunset effect.
6 – When your sunset has dried paint a spooky tree for your bat to hang from. We painted the trunk up one side and some branches across the top.
7 – While your tree is drying you can get your bat ready. Glue on some wiggle eyes and using your white Posca paint pen draw on a smile and some fangs.
8 – Turn your bat upside down and choose one of the 6 Halloween messages to glue in the middle.
9 – Fold you bat’s wings over to hide the message, as if it was roosting.
