How to Make a Fine Motor Reindeer Craft
– Start by painting a paper plate brown with acrylic paint. (We use acrylics because they only need one coat.)
– Draw around your hands a couple of times onto cardstock, cut them out and paint them brown too. (You can use an old cereal box or similar.)
– When the paint is dry use your hole puncher to make holes all around the edge of the paper plate.
– Cut a length of red yarn and tape it onto the back of the paper plate. Then invite kids to laced it in and out of the holes. You can let them doing any way they like or show them the looped stitch that you can see on our laced gingerbread man craft, or running stitch methods we used here. (You’ll notice that we doubled the yarn to make it thicker and show up more.) Keep threading all around the edge of the plate and sticky tape the loose end onto the back.
– Cut some facial features from coloured paper and glue them on. You’ll need eyes, a big red nose and a smiling mouth. You’ll see we added some wiggle eyes too.
– Then make some reindeer antlers from your handprints and glue them on.
– Finish your Laced Paper Plate Reindeer by cutting out some ears and sticking them onto the back of the head.
