How To Make Easy Heart Candy
To make our valentine sweets we chose five different colours of fondant: red, two shades of pink, white and blue. It didn’t take us long to make enough heart candy to share with a class of thirty children.
To make your Valentine sweets roll each colour of fondant thinly between two sheets of baking parchment. We rolled our sugar paste to about a 1 mm.
Next cut 3 different sizes of hearts with your mini cutters, in a selection of colours for each sweet you want to make. These cutters are so nifty and fun to use. They cut into the fondant really easily and have a little push top to release the cut out heart so you don’t have to fiddle to get them out!
Lay out your biggest hearts and dampen the pastry brush in the saucer of water and dab it onto each large heart. (You just want it slightly damp, not dripping.)
Quickly put a medium heart of a different colour on top of each big heart.
Repeat the process with the medium hearts, putting a little heart on the top of each.
Allow your valentine sweets to dry out over night. In the morning they should be firm enough to pop in a bag without loosing their shape or sticking together.
