Witches are polishing their broomsticks and vampires are dusting off their cloaks, Halloween party season is around the corner and I can already hear the screams and wails! Not from the ghosts and ghouls but from the parents super stressed trying to throw a Spooktacular Kids Halloween party while keeping their sanity and not breaking the bank!
Throwing a kids Halloween party can seem like an enormous and expensive task can’t it! My 11 year old son’s birthday is really close to Halloween, so over the years we’ve held loads of spooky themed parties across the age ranges and it’s easy to feel swamped!
After years of trial and error I’ve developed a pretty fool proof formula that lets me throw a spooktacular kids halloween party with little stress, prep and on a budget. Happy days indeed!
There are three main things to think about when hosting a kids Halloween party:
-
- decorations
- food
- entertainment.
To keep in budget and keep my sanity I am homemade all the way and the kids love it! You might be thinking how on earth can I manage to make and do everything myself I simply don’t have the time! This is where my mummy cunning comes in and I actually get the party guests to do it! Genius!
Kid Led Halloween Party!
I’ve tried halloween parties where I’ve prepped all the decorations and food myself and I’m shattered before the guests even arrive. Then I am even further exhausted by having to fully entertain 20 or so children for the full duration of the party too. It was getting too much and I decided to switch things around and haven’t looked back since!
Now for an easy Halloween party I lay out some activity tables with supplies to make simple Halloween food and decorations. For the first half of the party I let the kids get busy creating tasty Halloween treats and spooky decorations, moving from table to table as they go.
In the middle of the party we end the kid led activities and all come together to eat the food they’ve made and hang up and admire their decorations. We then finish off with some simple party games we can all play together.
This hands on kid led party approach has proved to work really well over the age ranges, with younger kids’ mums acting as helping hands. It keeps my work load to a minimum and keeps the kids busy and engaged all the way.
If you fancy giving this easy party idea a go you’ll see below some simple Halloween Decorations, Food and Party Games to get you started.
Easy Halloween Decorations Kids Can Make
Below you’ll see nine of my favourite Halloween party craft activities. They are all really simple and each uses only a few supplies. I tend to leave one completed craft on the table with the supplies and let bigger kids get stuck in. If your party age range is young ask some other mums and dads to stay and help. It’s good to have a few extra pairs of hands available to help with blowing up and tying balloons etc.
